Barkley table

thanks to Alec at Apartment Therapy (LA) for tipping us off on this great Barkley table by MitchelGold+BobWilliams- (as well as the Itsknotwood shout out!)
this would go well with the console table we posted awhile back from Crate&Barrel-

lisa congdon artwork

Lisa Congdon is an artist out of San francisco, who has a great blog i've been following for awhile- she produces amazing pieces, a lot of it involves imagery of trees- i love the recent "birch" series of small paintings she's been doing- perfect to accent any home! you can get them at her online shop, and also here-

Ted Baker shoes

while in Vegas last week for a tradeshow, i went into the Ted Baker store in the Forum Shops at Caesar's- spotted these great shoes that have the this photoreal print inside- this one is of a wood panel that has a picture of a pin-up girl tacked on it- i really appreciate things that have hidden details- even though no one will see it if you're actually wearing them, it's something special just for you- and adds a little wit and humour to your day- I'm also really excited cuz they're also opening a new Ted Baker store in my local mall !

SBIG #1: lighters

first of all, it's FRIDAY! YAY!! Fridays at It's (K)not Wood will now be known as SBIG Fridays. This translates into 'So Bad It's Good' Fridays. Jon and I decided that after last Friday's toilet seat cover, there's too much outrageous faux we couldn't ignore it. You can think of it as the alter ego of the amazing faux wood. Look at these lighters! Can you blame us??

Perfect for your "break", these woodgrain lighters are a great accessory for your night out. wow, these would make great shwag for a bar. They are available in several grains, but, I must warn, minimums are high - 500 pieces, yikes. Love the gold hardware. Happy Friday!

scrapbooking paper

i would say thanks to scrapbookers we have easy access to these beautiful woodgrain papers. The latter grain would look so modern at the same time pretty to accent a wedding invite, appealing to both the future hubby and wife.

even more beautiful are these handmade papers with a variety of subtle colors. love it.

to do or not to do...

front

back

Artist Liz Young has created a whole series of notepads titled on both the front and back sides, with life lists equally valid and each enough to equally fill the notepad. Here we see To Do with the back side suggesting To Don'ts which you can purchase at Modern Poverty. You can also find Business/Pleasure , Good Tales/Bad Tales and finally Dreams/Conflicts. Contact Artecnica for where to purchase these. Love how the woodgrain brings a classic background to classic ideas.

UPDATE:- the Artecnica links don't seem to be working anymore..,which is weird- maybe it will be back up soon-

coconut bark plates

Also seen at Target, this great "bark" collection of party ware- bowls, plates, trays, etc... now i suppose its up for debate whether or not coconut bark is actually "wood"- but the fact remains that these are not either, since they're melamine!- i thought they were supposed to be a wood print at first, but then realized they were supposed to be coconut-ish- anyways- they're still really pretty- i love the round tray and the bowls- again, can't seem to find them on their website, but they're new in store in the seasonal section- with all the new spring/summer partyare stuff-(prices start at $1.99-) what do you guys think?

heart of wood

* wishing you a lovely day *

ambient light

this is a two foot ambient cylinder light i spotted at J Green Furnishings this past weekend, a funiture shop on la brea and clinton near melrose. looked like screenprinted linen. would be pretty next to your bed. animated, pretty and fun.

ooo and just in this morning on the d*s site, what looks like the same maker (Lights Up), different style - pendant lamps . also looks like there is another option of a dark ground and light grains.

french tote

urban outfitters is too funny, silly rabbits. they knocked off those french phrased totes (by a japanese company called superplanning) using their own phrases, and in addition, did us the favor (if you can call it that) of translating... kind of like seeing a cool tee shirt with japanese characters that might translate to something bad about americans (who us?)

anyhoo, there are several of them. here's the wood one. i found it strolling through the UO on melrose. i don't see it on the website yet, but here is a link to the others - urbn.com

Nixon wood collection

now, i know many of you have seen Nixon's wood Rotolog watch, which is fabulous and genious- and we would've posted about it, but Em and I had made a commitment when starting this blog to only post about "fake" wood- and since the Nixon watch is inlayed with REAL wood, we felt it didn't match the criteria for this particular blog. well looks like Nixon has expanded its selection and released more pieces for a new"wood collection". I read on Coolhunting, that this collection includes leather wallets that are laser etched with the woodgrain pattern, and also includes hats, (in addition to the pieces that are inlaid with the real wood.) those wallets look incredible, and are supposedly out for valentines, yet i can't find them on their website (arghhh...) if anyone knows where to get them- let us know!!

when a good idea goes bad.

normally we like to post about "good wood", but i just had to post my dissapointment on this piece of faux bois- i recently read a press release about a new phone put out by boost mobile, that was called the "woody"- aimed at "trendsetters" and is limited edition... I've been desperately seeking SOMEONE- ANYONE to come out with a cool "wood" cel phone- and thought maybe this could have potential... but i was so wrong. now, believe me, being in the real "OC"- i get the whole retro surf thing- and i suppose there is a little eeensy- bit of kitsch/cool factor...but this execution could have gone soooo many other ways, and in the end, we get this really... ummm... how do we say this nicely... unexciting "design"... one would think with all the technology out there, someone could come up with something better-... am i wrong on this? has anyone seen a decent woodgrain cel phone?

wood type

for all you graphic designers and font afficiandos, Poppytalk posted about this CD of digital woodtype, which is soooo lovely... but as with most font packages these days, a tad bit expensive... maybe it'll go on sale?

log wallpaper

the last of the featured faux wood things i saw in the current MetHome,
i'm a little on the fence about this "Distressed Log" wall paper, by York wallcoverings... as with almost any wallpaper, i think this could look cool maybe just on one focal wall, and juxtaposed with say, a cool modern credenza... in gloss white or something... they actually have other ones too- i kind of prefer this more photo real "log wallpaper" one- anyways- you can get them all here. Look under "faux textures"

woodwalk

Floor to Heaven is Germany based Michaela Schleypen. The name says it all! She creates beautiful and almost spiritual rugs that transport you to a different place - yes this is a rug, maybe like a magic carpet? Even better, she shares the love by teaching workshops on how to create your own rug. That rocks. Check out her website floortoheaven.com and thanks to AT and Moloco for featuring her pixelated map of the world rug.

thomas paul plate

although his pillows may be in temporary jeopardy (when at the NYGift show, heard the tragic news about his manufacturer pulling out and him having to stop his pillow line)- you can still get this amazing melanmine plates by Thomas Paul- at velocity- part of his "transfer" line- fellow woodnut Enrique tipped us about these awhile back (he's so on it) and they are also featured in the MetHome page i mentioned the other day- bottom line: we love you TP.

Tree Trunk stool

Was thumbing through the new Metropolitan home- that my friend Gary showed me
and lo-and behold, the last page is all about "faux"- some GREAT things -
i'll be posting a few of them for the next few days- first is: this tree trunk stool, designed by Ilona Huvenaars and Alissia Melka-Teichroew- made from coated seating foam- i LOVE it- apparently limited edition- so HURRY!- more here.

plastic stumps

while attending the NY International Gift fair earlier this week, i was so excited to see these fun plastic tree-stump-esque stools that were scattered in front of each entrance- they were placed on designated areas of astro turf, and came in white and bright pink- i don't know who designed them, or even if they are a new design, but it was the first time i'd seen them and i just loved the design- could be great as a coffee table, or side table.. as well as a stool- and they apparently stacked- so how great would they be in a patio or backyard!

target display bkg

here's the second... love it, but how long will target keep using these woodgrain backgrounds? it is a timeless theme....

wall clock

one of two faux bois sitings from target.. a wall clock . beware: the thin silver arms are delicate.
